A former coach and teacher with Marcus Garvey Leadership Center charter school in Oklahoma City faces more than two dozen criminal counts after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student beginning when she was 13 years old.
Pascal Jones, 42, Edmond, was charged last week in Oklahoma County District Court with 25 felony sex crime counts, including 10 counts of forcible oral sodomy, 10 counts of lewd acts with a minor, and 5 counts of rape by instrumentation.
According to his accuser, she and the teacher were involved in a sexual relationship that occurred in his classroom during school hours. Allegedly, Jones would lock the door to his classroom during elective hours, and the sexual encounters would occur during that time. The incidents are said to have taken place from November 2011 until March 2012. The girl says the encounters occurred more than a hundred times. When her mother found out about the allegations, she transferred her daughter to Crooked Oak. However, Jones is accused of attempting to contact the girl at Crooked Oak in August in an attempt to get her to recant her story. The mother then filed a Victim’s Protective Order (VPO) against the former teacher.
In addition to investigating the alleged molestation by Jones, police are also investigating whether or not the school district did enough to protect the girl. The girl told police that she spoke to school staff about the molestation in 2011, but that nothing was done. A police report was filed in June 2012 based on DHS referral, but the case was determined to be unfounded because, at that time, the girl denied having sex with the teacher.
Court records indicate that Pascal Jones was employed by Marcus Garvey Charter School from 2010 until 2012. Jones is also the former head football coach, girls’ track coach, and assistant boys’ basketball coach at Capitol Hill High School. He resigned from Capitol Hill in 2008, following his suspension for an arrest for marijuana possession. He was the head football coach at Capitol Hill from 2003 until his arrest and resignation. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Northeast High School for eight years and an assistant coach at U.S. Grant High School for three years.
Accusations of sex crimes can ruin one’s career and destroy one’s family. Often, allegations that follow a seemingly consensual relationship between an adult and a minor can be difficult to investigate as the accuser may continually change his or her story, making allegations and then recanting them. Regardless of the motive behind an accusation–whether a true cry for help or a false accusation for attention or revenge–the mere hint of sexual molestation can shatter a person’s reputation.
